Morocco camel rides and trekking for the sunset/sunrise

-Camel rides for the sunset:

Most tourists that visit Morocco prefer to do the sunset camel rides. It is the best excursion as you will have time to cross the dunes and watch the sand’s color change. Therefore, if you want to book just the sunset camel ride, you will need to come very early in the evening in order not to miss the sunset. But before that, will need to contact us earlier so that we can set a place for our meeting. If you come in your own car, we would be more than glad to offer you a place where to park it. However, if you do not have a car, we can offer it to you at a decent price.

When everything is set, we will take you to the dunes where your camels will be waiting for you. Undoubtedly, our camel drivers will help you to ride the camels and take your pictures. Clearly, you will be driven to a high dune with beautiful views for a better sunset. This depends on how much time you book and your arrival time in the desert.

When you arrive at the high dune, the camel will stay down the dune and you will have to climb for a little while as the camels can’t do that. Thereafter, reaching the peak, you will be served a blanket to sit on. Yet, you can go and tour the dunes while waiting for the sunset. Finally, after watching the sunrset, you will take the camel back to the same location where we started from.

Camel rides for the sunrise:

The sunrise camel rides are almost the same as the sunset ones, except that you will need to wake up very early in the day. Usually, it is the same tourists that book the sunset are the same who book the sunrise while spending the night in a camp in the dunes.

So if you book a sunset camel ride and a desert night in a traditional or luxury camp, you can just wake up about 20 minutes before the sunrise and climb to a suitable place. However, if you want just the sunset camel ride, you will need to wake up earlier.

The same as the sunset, you will take the camels and go through the dunes to q high dune for the sunrise. You will have some time while the sun comes up, walking and wandering around. After the sunrise, you will take the camels back to an agreed place, where the camels will drop you.

1 night in Merzouga desert, Morocco camel rides, trekking, and camping

One night in Merzouga desert is the most booked activity of all. Many tourists choose to start it in the evening, about 2 hours before the sunset. However, others that have their own cars or come by themselves choose to start from the morning and have a 4×4 discovery tour before the camel ride and the desert night. With Travelling In Morocco, we are happy to offer you any plan you choose or customize, don’t hesitate to contact us!

-The first part

Trekkings in the Merzouga desert and spending a night in a Berber camp is the most thing that tourists love to do.

In general, if you want to book the one-day camel ride and the camping, you just need to contact us at least one day before your arrival. So in order to set where to meet and when. When the day comes, we will meet and take you to our guesthouse in order to park your car or leave any heavy stuff that you won’t need in the camp. Thereafter, we will take you to the camels that will be waiting next to the dunes.

You ride the camels and cross the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, such a beautiful and charming view watching the dunes’ colors changing. After a while of riding and taking pictures, it is time for the sunset. Here, it depends on your arrival time. If you arrive early, you can watch the sunset from the camp, as it is also a chance to climb alone and walk around to discover the area. Also, you can take the sandboard and go skiing. However, if you arrive late for the camel ride, we usually stop on the way and watch the sunset, then continue our way to the camp.

When the nights arrive, you will be called for dinner, a delicious traditional Moroccan meal. We also cater to vegetarian choices, so don’t hesitate to ask. While having dinner, our team will be making the campfire and getting themselves ready for the Berber party with drums. Finally, after the music around the campfire, you will have some free time to watch the starry sky before going to sleep.

-The second part

The second part of the one night in Merzouga desert is a chance to watch the beautiful sunrise, take a bath to relax, have breakfast, and then take the camels back to the place where we started from. On this part, some tourists usually prefer to book quads or 4×4 cars to come back to the center of Merzouga as already did the camel ride.

2 nights in Merzouga desert, Morocco camel rides, trekking, and camping

The 2 days in Merzouga Sahara desert is something that tourists love to do and usually book desert tours that include it. In general, this plan allows you to discover more things about the Morocco desert and its surroundings. The first day will be a camel ride and camping in a Berber camp and the second day is about a discovery desert tour by the 4×4.

Some tourists choose to start their first day from the morning and take small excursions with quads or buggies. However, others and the most popular plan is to start two hours before the sunset.

-The first day:

After contacting us and setting a meeting point in Merzouga center or anywhere else, we will drive you our guesthouse to leave the car or anything heavy that you won’t need in the desert night. We will take you directly to the camels and start the excursion to the camp. Our camel drivers will help you to safely ride the camels and also will take different pictures for you on the way. Besides, you can ask for stops at any place on the way.

The place where to stop and watch the sunset depends on how early you ride the camels. If you arrive and ride the camels early, then it is better for you to watch the sunset after the camel ride. It is better because you can leave your luggage in the camp and for example take sandboards and go skiing, discovering and climbing to a suitable place.

In a while when the night arrives, you will have your dinner then enjoy the Berber music outside around the campfire. Indeed, it is one of the best feelings when you feel the freedom in the middle of nowhere. When the party is finished, you can have your time to do relax and enjoy the starry sky.

-The second day:

The second day of our tour is totally different from the first. Today you are going to have a tour to discover the desert surroundings. Before that, we offer you the chance to choose whether you want to do it with the camels or the 4×4. Some people choose the camels because they want to feel more local. However, many other people choose 4×4 tours as they allow them to discover many different places.

The desert tour starts with picking you from the camp heading to discover a unique lifestyle. The Berber nomads are the indigenous people of the area and you could say that most people in Merzouga were nomads before. These people still live a simple life under tents with a number of goats, sheep, and sometimes donkeys and camels. Thereafter, you are going to travel to a famous mine of kohl that used to belong to the French administration. Later, we will take you to one of the best panoramic places in Merzouga. They call it “Glbnass” which in English means the people’s heart. This place is a mountain that allows you to see the desert from a different gaze.

Next, we will take you to visit the Gnaoua people, another unique group of people in the desert. These people will entertain you with their music and dance. Lunch usually is served in this small village in one of its restaurants. Further, we are going to take you to the MNAM, Morocco National Auto Museum. Here you will see and discover many different 4×4 cars, old and new ones. Also, you will see different kinds that you have never seen such as two jeeps combined as one car. Of course there are many other places that you will visit and stop by.

3 nights in Merzouga desert, Morocco camel rides, trekking and camping

Three nights in the Merzouga desert is one of the unique chances where you can discover the desert in a better way and do most of its activities. Of course the camel ride, camping and desert discovery tours are the highlights. However, you can do many other activities such as climbing the highest dune, rent quads, buggies or just go skiing.

Travelling In Morocco has set the following plan for you depending on our experiencve and the many requests that we have received so far. Therefore, feel free to contract us for any customization.

-The first day:

Usually, the first day starts in the evening by meeting us at an agreed point in Merzouga. That means that you will need to contact us early to set everything and answer any questions you may have. When everything is clear, we will meet you and take you to our place where you can leave any heavy stuff or park your car in case if you have one. Thereafter, we will take you to the camels that will be waiting for you next to the golden dunes.

Definitely, you will enjoy the camel ride and stunning views of the desert. Our team of camel drivers are well experienced and will explain and help you ride the camels, take pictures, and lead you to beautiful spots. Usually, you have many stops on the way to take pictures on the way to the camp where you get off the camels to leave your luggage and go to discover the area. You can take the sandboarding and go skiing until you reach a suitable place for the sunset. However, sometimes if you are a bit late, you make a stop on way to watch the sunset then continue to the camp.

The last station, the camp, where you are going to do many activities. Firstly, you are going to have dinner, a delicious Moroccan traditional male, of course, we cater to vegan options, all you need to do is to inform us. While having dinner, our team will be setting the campfire and getting themselves ready for the Berber party. Many different instruments that are played with drums will definitely amaze you. Finally, when the music is finished, you can relax and watch the starry sky.

-The second day:

Today, you can wake up early and climb the dunes to watch the charming sunrise. When coming back taking a bath, and have breakfast, you are going to take the car and drive to discover the desert area. It doesn’t matter what to visit first because you have the 4×4 and the whole day. We will take you to visit the nomads, the Berbers that are still living in tents and travel from place to place looking for better conditions. Do not be shocked if you find that some of them exceed more than 10 family members or more than one wife. These people live and get their income from raising sheep, goats, and camels then sell them in the nearest cities such as Merzouga, Rissani, and Erfoud.

One of the other things that you will visit is the Gnawa people. Through the past years, they become one of the unmissed things that tourists visit when they book the desert tour. What makes the Gnawa people unique is that they kept their culture and traditions through the years though they lived in a different land with different people. Clearly, you will enjoy your time when visiting them as they make a party for everyone that comes.

Some of the other places that you will visit are the panoramic view of GlbNass, MIfiss’s mine of kohl, and the Morocco National Auto Museum. Firstly, Glb Nass is one of the most beautiful mountain peaks in Merzouga that offers a unique view of the whole desert as far as the eye can reach. The mine of kohl was one of the main resources in the area where the French administration used to take control of. The MNAM(Morocco National Auto Museum) is a place where you will see many different 4×4 cars.

-The third day:

On the third day, you can wake up early, climb the dunes and watch the beautiful sunset. There are plenty of activities to do, but most of them that tourists choose to do is renting a quad or buggy. The prices are decent and depend on how many hours you book. Some book two hours accompanied by a tour guide that leads them through the dunes and shows them the best places.

In the evening you can take a sunset camel ride to the biggest dune that is called Lalla Merzouga. It is the highest dune in the whole desert of Erg Chebbi. Of course, at a period of time, you will need to go climbing by yourself as the camels cannot do that. The top of Lalla Merzouga is the best panoramic place of all time. You can wait till you watch the beautiful sunset and then head to the hotel.
